AN EXCITING NEW MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY

To My Friends in Christ,  You’re invited to join with us in one of the most exciting, high-impact ministries that our city has seen!!! Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.
He sent His word and healed them,
And delivered them from their destructions.
Psalm 107:19-20

Trauma is part of the human experience in our broken world. We know all too well that trauma disrupts lives, destroys hope, perpetuates itself in cycles of violence, and perhaps worst of all, trauma isolates people from self, others, and from God.

Consider the trauma that you and I see daily in our midst:

• The child facing a scary world after the loss of a parent

• The teen overwhelmed by fear or helplessness

• Broken relationships, often in our families, even in our churches

• Adults dealing with the impact of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse – in many cases, decades later

• Significant life-changes resulting from illness or loss of loved ones

But there is good news: Starting soon, in Baltimore, we’ll have a new weapon in our arsenal to help trauma victims.  Its name is Biblical Trauma Healing (BTH).

The strength of the BTH ministry lies in pairing extensive scripture engagement with mental health best practices in small group settings. This highly successful approach was developed for application in the war zones of east Africa.  Now, it’s been adapted to serve the fractured innocence of America’s towns and cities.  And it works!!  It works to decrease trauma symptoms and increase connection to God, to God’s Word, and to the local church. It helps answer the deepest cry of a wounded heart… “If God loves me, why am I suffering?”

I am overjoyed at the strength and vision of the teamwork among the Maryland Bible Society, Somebody Cares Baltimore, and the American Bible Society.  We have come together to bring Biblical Trauma Healing to our town through the folks who are on the front lines in the battle against all that breeds trauma – the local church. There is no doubt in my mind that engaging with our local churches to deliver this ministry is a winning strategy.

The strategy for our city is simple: to equip church leaders with the tools that can bring healing. For many we will serve, the first words of the Bible they might ever hear spoken in their lives will be words of love and hope – and healing.

We’re excited to be able to launch this desperately needed ministry to the people around us.  And we pray that you will be part of it.

Together with Him,

Dave Moyer
